SAM’S LUNCH SURPRISE
A local favorite evening dining experience for many retirees is Sam Seltzer’s Steakhouse. It has a touch of cozy elegance and serves a good dinner at a great price, with a cheery, friendly staff at your service.
So I wasn’t surprised that my two friends Mary (91) and Margaret (99) wanted to celebrate Mary’s birthday at Sam’s. What was surprising was they wanted to go for lunch. I thought Sam’s lunch offerings would be the usual sandwiches or one of their heavy evening meals. Scratch that! Yes, there were sandwiches, but also interesting, more substantial meals that were just the right size for a midday appetite.
We all selected the tilapia, a meal under $7.00, which included in-house made crusty, seasoned rolls and one side (a side salad could be added to for 99 cents). The ladies had the garlic butter sauce over their expertly grilled fish with those yummy butter-crisp edges and a large stalk of perfectly cooked, not previously frozen, broccoli. I was stunned that they were not offered every restaurant’s veggie massacre: the infamous vegetable medley (mixture of a few unevenly cooked frozen vegetables.)
I had a gently blacked tilapia fillet with a large amount a fresh asparagus laced with real homemade hollandaise sauce, not the thick muck from a jar. They serve the real thing!
Sam’s own-label wine was a birthday gift, and a shared Napoleon decadent dessert was the birthday treat shared by all.
Service was thoughtful and on target. We all left very satisfied, planning more visits to Sam Selzer’s Steakhouse and not just for special occasions.
Wishing you satisfying dining experiences,
