STELLA: EAT MY GRITS!

By Foodie Adventurer

I’m proposing an addition to Stella’s Deli and Gelato sign:
Eat My Grits! I ate them and they are delicious: smooth, thick, tasty yummy goodness. Dining outside in the warming morning sun, watching people catching the rays, walking dogs, holding hands, and making friendly conversation was a delightful way to start the day.

My companions all had a thick french toast with perfectly crisp-cooked bacon and steaming coffee. I had a veggie and cheese 3-egg lightly-browned omelet, where you could actually see the melting cheddar cheese, and the veggies were cooked instead of crunchy raw. I loved it!

Mike, our server, couldn’t do enough to accommodate our comfort, and food substitutions were not denied…no rolling eyes of disturbed waiter arrogance or an offended rebuff from the cook. (I have had at another deli a cook deny me a slice of tomato on a sandwich because that wasn’t how she had designed it. Yes, devils wear aprons, too.)

Tereasa (known as ‘Mother Teresa” by her friends at the afternoon Gulfport Beach music gatherings) was all smiles and happiness, making you feel welcome and a part of the “family.”

My only concerns are the unpleasant gelato presentation and the disturbing noises coming from the fans and refrigerated display cases. Gelato should be served at a higher temperature than American ice
cream, and a creamy, swirling, colorful presentation is preferable to what looked like hard-packed messy globs in steel containers that a hungry teenager attacked. And when I’m dining, I want to hear music, gentle conversations or relax with some reading material. The noisy machinery takes away from the homey ambiance. Having bought used restaurant equipment, you usually don’t know what you get until you plug it in. Maybe an electrician would be able to adjust things.

All the good food, lively companions, and cute antics of the neighboring dogs gave me the morning boost I needed to stroll down to our Gulfport Tuesday Farmers Market, which had a great variety of sumptuous fruits and veggies at good prices.

I also poked through the numerous vendor displays and our quirky Gulfport shops, coming away with another got-to-have bracelet and a bag of homemade nutty snacks that will be perfect with an evening
Netflix foreign film. A loaf of strawberry bread screamed at me to be taken home, toasted, and then smothered with whipped cream cheese that has been lightly warmed in the toaster oven. (Yes, my form of sexy torture…fruit bondage!)

Wishing you a life lived out loud!
