MORE TREATS FROM CITY OF IMAGINATION
Once again City of Imagination, one of Gulfport’s most significant assets, is sponsoring a series of events designed to enrich the lives of area residents and, at the same time enhance the careers of budding artists.
In a continuation of their Emerging Artist Series the first public exhibition of a series of dynamic paintings by Bronx native John DiSanza which are an emotional response to the tragedy of 9/11 are being shown in the Catherine Hickman Theatre Lobby from October 1st through 31st. There will be an artist’s reception at the theater on Friday, October 2 from 5:30-7:30 PM. This will be a great opportunity to meet the artist and enjoy Gulfport’s First Friday Art Walk that takes place on the same evening.
Meanwhile actor, author and playwright, John DiSanza’s new floral paintings are on display in the lobby of the Wachovia Bank building now through November 14. These new works are colorful, bold and energetic images of flowers and may be viewed anytime during the bank’s open hours. This display is part of 49/2 which is the second year of a 49 day celebration of creativity and art on 49th Street in Gulfport.
Also part of 49/2 is an exhibition of paintings by Kim Dohrman at The Longhouse which is at 2309 49th Street. Ms Dohrman is an award winning visual artist, is Associate Director of Arts Services at Creative Clay Cultural Arts Center and is 2008’s Creative Clay Emerging Leader. Ms Dohrman will be present at The Longhouse’s “All’s Faire” Showcase on Saturday, October 3 from 11:00 AM-4 PM.
In yet another 49/2 event is A Kreative Kidz Project on Saturday, October 10 from 12:30 PM-4 PM at Anderson Lumber on 49th Street South which will include painting a car, a graffiti wall, tree weaving from Tangerine Parkway, meeting of some authors of chidren’s books, an open mic, a special speaker, an African Art Exhibition, an impressive flute quartet concert by Flutes4 and other creative activities. Put the kids in painting togs and get down there on October 10. This sounds like a “cant miss” event!
